Valentinskamp Hamburg, 2006

After a revision period, AS&P - Albert Speer & Partner was ranked second after placing amongst the first place winners, in an internationally represented design competition. An office and residential building were planned on the DIFA grounds, west of the landmarked Unilever high rise. The property lies in direct proximity to the music hall and the "Planten un Blomen" park and is surrounded by large solitaries and detailed residential developments. As acknowledged by the competition judges, an impressive design was developed through convincing urbanity of this urban space. The directly adjacent buildings will be comprehensively included in the landscape planning. New high quality plazas exist in the west, east and north, which are accented by their architectural design vocabulary with overhanging sculptures. The apartments are located opposite the existing residential development along the Valtinkamp. The alignment and orientation of the office development interacts with the Unilever high rise, without influencing its autonomy. The stoney and monolytic façades awarely offset the high rise façade. The gallant overall picture is completed by the lighter travertine and shiny bronze panels.
